Master of Nutrition and Dietetics
Orientation And Pedagogy
Orientation programme for the newly inducted students:
We conduct a week-long induction programme for our first-year students to acquaint them with the new environment of SSCANS.
During the induction programme, we familiarise the students with the programme overview, including programme objectives, course
structure, specializations, and career opportunities in the Nutrition and Dietetics programme
domains.
Ice-breaking sessions, guest lectures, and interactions with academic industry experts
are organized for the students. Also, during induction week, teaching and non-teaching staff
members are introduced to the students and are enlightened on rules and regulations, student
support services such as campus medical and health care facilities, support counselling,
recreational and wellness facilities and various campus committees.
A campus tour is organized
for all first-year students, and a special session on gender equality is provided. Students
interact with fellow students and get opportunities to acquaint themselves with the new
environment and peers.
Teaching Pedagogy:
The teaching–learning process is designed to support students’ holistic development through strong academic foundations, competency-based training, leadership development, and essential professional skills. In alignment with the NCAHP framework for allied health education, the programme prepares graduates to be practice-ready, ethically grounded, and equipped with global competencies relevant to contemporary nutrition and healthcare settings.
Faculty members adopt innovative and learner-centred pedagogies, combining lectures with hands-on laboratory practical trainings, demonstrations, case-based learning, and guided skill-building sessions. Students gain experiential exposure through field visits to research centres, healthcare and community settings, food industries, and government and non-government organisations, along with academic enrichment through journal clubs, seminars, group discussions, and interactive sessions. The programme also emphasises research orientation, evidence-based learning, and mentoring for students interested in innovation and entrepreneurship.
